Back in Our Day
Stories of everyday American life from the decades our parents and grandparents lived through: what a gallon of gas cost, what was on the radio, what you wore to school, and how people got by.
The Day You Were Born
Type in any birthday from 1900 to today and we put together a picture magazine about that day and the years around it. It's free to read, and it makes a lovely thing to send to a parent or a grandparent.
Accuracy comes first
Every fact in an issue comes from a record you can check, and every section lists its source:
- news and events from Wikipedia and Wikidata
- prices from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau
- songs from the Billboard charts
- baby names from the Social Security Administration
- the weather from the ERA5 climate record
- photographs from Wikimedia Commons, the Library of Congress and the National Archives, each one credited
If we can't check something, it doesn't go in.
